Vulcan Post told the Kuké story

This one is not about the cakes.

In December 2023, a month after we opened the cafe, Claudia Khaw at Vulcan Post wrote about how Kuké actually came to be — which is a longer and less tidy story than the name suggests.

Established in 2020, Kuké might be a business you mistakenly believe is the result of the pandemic.

That is the part most people get wrong. The Kuké name is from 2020, but Corina and I started baking as a business in 2015, under a different name and a completely different model. Back then we supplied cakes to cafes. Before that she was a banker and I was in marketing.

The decision not to compromise their quality ended up being the catalyst for Corina and Inn to go direct to customers.

Walking away from the wholesale side meant walking away from steady volume. We went direct instead, and eight years later that is what made a cafe of our own possible.
